Eating out
Sheffield city centre has never had that much to boast about on the restaurant front, most of the class culinary houses were in the suburbs.
These days, with the cool new city living invasion, things are beginning to change.
If you really want to keep up to speed with what’s hot and what’s not in the city centre and beyond you need to get yourself a Dirty Stop Out’s Guide

If you’re just too lazy or too tight here’s a few recommendations
American
Bukowski’s
Tel: 0114 258 4700
217-219 London Road S2
www.bukowskisbar.com

One of the new pillars of the London Road renaissance, providing good but inexpensive food in a chilled out and far less pretentious alternative to Ecclesall Road.
Regular pianist and jazz duos and lots of literary, arty and drinking types in the time-honoured fashion of the venue’s namesake

English
Napoleon’s (Ecclesall Road) – Four Seasons
Tel: 0114 266 1115
844 Ecclesall Road S11

Gastronomic and scenic delights-a-plenty with the newly transformed and renamed downstairs restaurant.
Long renowned as one of the region’s finest eateries, the no-expense-spared transformation includes a new look and more space for punters.
Four Seasons takes on a more modern feel incorporating black granite, bronze and steel in its breathtaking colour scheme.
If you’re not a member you need to be, it’s free (as is Napoleon’s Owlerton below) so give them a call
Napoleon’s (Owlerton)
Tel: 0114 285 5566
17 Livesey Street (off Penistone Road) S6

The raised restaurant area is a softly lit and relaxing world away from the often frenetic nature of the nearby gaming floor. Here you’ll find top notch cuisine, attentive service and life not tasting much better than their sesame roast sea bass fillets with mange tout. The bijou breakfasts are also a big hit with high rollers intent on spinning the dice til dawn.
It’s also next door to Owlerton Stadium so you might think about combining your meal with a night at the dogs as well.
You don’t have to gamble but you need to be a member to get stuck in.

1st Floor, 10a High Street, Dronfield S18

If you want to re-live your holiday then this is the place to go.
The owners already had an enormous restaurant in Zante which was working so well they decided to open a new version in Dronfield.
It’s housed in a former council building, massive.
Very much a party palace at the weekend, with lots of dancing and basic lessons for diners who don’t know the moves.
Weekdays attract more romantic couples.
All in all a big hit and a good shot in the arm for Dronfield.
Indian
Delhi Junction
Tel: 0114 262 0675
Abbeydale Road South, Dore S7

Rightly viewed by many as the city’s finest Indian.
Forget the curry-rice-and-flagon-of-lager plan, they won’t have any of it.
Instead throw yourself at the mercy of manager Naz and he’ll get your tastebuds tingling with the likes of tandoori salmon and aubergine masalla, helped down with anything from a glass of house red right through to a £43.95 bottle of Nuit St George from Delhi Junction’s prestige selection.
Italian
Nonna’s
Tel: 0114 268 6166
539-541 Ecclesall Road S11

Delhi, coffee shop, wine bar and restaurant which can do no wrong in most people’s eyes. Always busy, this is the place to be seen if you’re that way inclined. Attracts any Italian footballer who graces the turf of either of the local grounds and has a clientele that’s a good Italian/Anglo mix. Lots of BMWs, wads of cash and food definitely worth shelling out for if you fancy a treat.
Latin American
El Paso
Tel: 0114 273 9523
8 Cumberland Street S1

Former La Bamba which has taken a little of the past’s emphasis on relentless partying (it was all the time in here and we’ve been enjoying the rest, as it happens) and channelled it into the menu.
Choice Italian and Mexican cuisine, with their enormous chimichangas always a fave. Fronted by omni-present, guitar hero Sergio.
General
Takapuna
Tel: 0114 272 9661
52-54 West Street S1

Leading light in the new breed of bar/restaurants arriving in the city centre.

Attracts the cool set that once frequented the nearby Devonshire Quarter.
